Units, Effects & Upgrades


In this upgrade I am focusing on gameplay-improvement. With the new "Saboteur" unit the variety of possible openings is increased, leading to more variance in strategies. Also the AI-Opponents now use different build-orders and unit compositions. Additionaly the are some small improvements on the graphics ... but still a long way to go ...

New Unit: Saboteur


The "Saboteur" is the first attacking unit with a special behaviour. It will move to the nearest enemy "Dark Alloy Refinery" and attack the gatherers there.

It is also the first unit with an AOE attack. (available through an upgrade in the "Dark Alloy Lab")

Improved Graphics

I created an improved explosion effect using the VFX-Graph in Unity. Also the "Chain-Lightning"-Attack from the Saboteur was implemented using the VFX-Graph.

(Not supported in the Web-GL build.)

Better AI-Opponents

There are now 10 AI-Opponents of different strength. The level 10 bot is about 1000 rating points stronger the the level 1 bot. (When measured with a rating system where a rating difference of 366 points translates into win probabilities of 90 : 10)

The aboslute strength of the AI still needs improvements, as the level 10 bot is easily beatable by a skilled human.

Upgrades

There are 5 new upgrades to a total of 8 upgrades now. All upgrades are available in the "Dark Alloy Lab". Later some of the upgrades should be moved to other upgrade buildings.

Other Improvements

  • Fast-Forward button in the tutorial
  • System messages can now be send via the chat window
  • Faster reaction times for units to targets that are at the edge of the fog of war
